Julia Barnekow was born in Lübeck, Germany. At the early age
of 11, she was accepted into the preparatory programme of
the Lübeck conservatory and in the following years she won
multiple prizes at the nationwide "Jugend musiziert" musical
competitions in Germany.
In addition to this, Julia received the 1st prize at the Hamburg Instrumental Competition held in the renowned Laeisz music hall in Hamburg several times.
Julia studied piano at the conservatory of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. During her studies, she worked as a répétiteur at the theaters in Freiburg im Breisgau and Basel, Switzerland and also as a freelance piano teacher.
After graduation, she participated in several musical theater productions and worked for a television production.
Her artistic projects have focused on intensive collaboration with various instrumentalists and opera singers (Freiburg theatre, the Frankfurt opera house and the Hamburg state opera).
Her teaching work has encompassed all age groups starting with children, from the age of 5, up to adult learners. Julia lived and worked in Hamburg from 2000 to 2012, which included teaching the piano at the music school in Hamburg- Barsbüttel until 2008.
She moved to Austria in 2012, where she worked on freelance basis and lived with her Austrian husband and their daughter in Vienna.
Since 2019, she has continued her work as a freelance piano teacher and pianist in Graz.
